My real trip to the university
I remember back in 2015 when I first arrived to the university. But I didn’t start all this trip to be a university student at the Universidad de Chile. Instead of that, it was at Universidad del Desarrollo. But first, before telling you that story, let’s go back some years.
When I was at school, I wasn´t too sure about what to study. I knew I liked biology, so I choose Biology as my base “elective”. I was happy there and had great grades. But also, I liked history, so I started going to both classes, missing sometimes Biology and sometimes History (both of them were taught in the same schedule). I liked biology so much that I even though about studying Medicine, but then I realized I wanted something more “artistic” or something that has more relation with arts. So, I started investigating for myself (my school was a mathematic school and super traditional, so I had never heard careers related to arts, all we herd as possible careers were traditional ones as Medicine or Engineer). Then, after that research I’ve found Design.
After that change of my mind (about not studying Medicine, instead Design), I only took History as elective. I took the PSU and finally arrived to the university and, as I said before, it was the Universidad del Desarrollo. I choose that university because it had a specific kind of design, which was Objects and Spaces Design, what I was more into it. Everything was great. I entered with a scholarship because of my PSU score and also because they had a leadership scholarship and, as I was the president of school students center back in my school, so I had it too.
As I said, everything was great at the university. Great grades and I was having a good time. But, after some years, I had a class called History of Design. Quickly it became one of my favorite classes. I really enjoyed it and I had the maximum score, so my classmates asked me to start teaching them, paying me back with money. And I did it. Then, I realized I wanted to know more about history but now related to Arts. Also, I realized that I like to teach. So, I talked to my teacher, with I had a really good relationship, and he recommended me two options: Arts College at the Universidad Católica and Theory and History of Arts at the Universidad de Chile.
I took the PSU again. As the results were ready, I couldn’t be happier. I had really good scores and everything was settled to start a new career at this new university.
I entered to Theory and History of Arts back in 2019 and since then I’m studying that. This is what I really love. I have great grades and I have passion for my career. Right now, I’m almost finishing university and after doing that I’ll take a post grade in Europe (at least that’s the plan), so I can come back and teach what I have studied.
I’m glad I made that change.
And I was going to study medicine…!
